Volunteer with us
Every day, dozens of people give up a few hours of their time up freely for the Cathedral. Whether it is welcoming visitors, guiding tours, running tours for school-children or working in the shop there are over a dozen roles available.
Most groups require little or no experience and full training will be given. So if you want to meet friendly, like-minded people and work in a wonderful historic space then please get in touch with us today.
Some Ways to Volunteer
Big LEGO® Build
In February 2016 Exeter Cathedral embarked on an exciting new project! We want to build a to scale model of the Cathedral out of 300,000 pieces of LEGO to raise £250,000. Find out more about joining the Big LEGO Build team.
Exeter Cathedral is looking to set up a new Events Volunteers Team to support daytime and especially evening events in the Cathedral. The role will involve all aspects of running the event smoothly and professionally including seat numbering, seating, scanning and selling tickets, selling refreshments, fire marshalling and clearing up. Clearly team members will have a free seat for the event itself and they will also have access to other Cathedral Volunteer benefits.
Stewards & Guides
If you are enthusiastic and happy to provide a warm and friendly welcome to our visitors then a position as a steward may be ideal for you. Once you have been with us for a short time you can apply to go on our Cathedral Guides Course.
Friendly people willing to provide a service with a smile are ideal in our shop assistant's role. The shop itself is cosy and you will be working in a small team.
Previous experience in a school environment is a useful but not an essential requirement. You do need to be cheerful and be at ease working with children as you will be delivering activities and workshops to school groups. We provide an enhanced DBS check for this role.
Our Tapisers are highly skilled in needlecraft so you need to be reasonably experienced to join this group but don't be shy...come in, chat with them and take a look at what they do. If you would like to see some of their detailed work, take a peek at the Cathedral Rondels when you visit.
