Exeter Cathedral is seeking an organised and caring professional for the permanent, part-time role of Cathedral Choir Administrator and Chaperone Co-ordinator within the Liturgy and Music department.
Reporting to the Director of Music, this multi-faceted position combines comprehensive administrative support for the Cathedral’s musical provision with essential pastoral care and safeguarding oversight for the choristers. The role requires 20 hours per week year-round for administration, plus five hours per week during term time for chaperoning duties at Exeter School and Exeter Cathedral. Responsibilities include managing chaperone rotas, coordinating chorister recruitment events, handling concert logistics, and acting as the main point of contact for parents and school staff. The ideal candidate will have strong administrative experience, excellent communication skills and a steadfast commitment to safeguarding.
To apply, please read the application pack, complete our application form and send your application form, CV and a covering letter to Chief Operating Officer Catherine Escott at [email protected] by the closing date of 25 June.
The Choral Scholarships at Exeter Cathedral (two each of counter-tenor or contralto, tenor and bass) are either held in conjunction with degree courses at Exeter University, (any subject, provided that lecture times do not clash seriously with choir commitments), or are offered to ‘gap’ students for either one or two years immediately before or after full-time tertiary study. The Choral Scholarships offer experience of singing daily in the Exeter Cathedral Choir alongside the six Lay Vicars. Former choral scholars have gone on to positions at some of the country’s major foundations.
We accept applications for Choral Scholarships throughout the year.
Exeter Cathedral is seeking an Alto Lay Vicar who will sing Alto in Exeter Cathedral’s Choir.
The Lay Vicar will attend all full Cathedral Choir rehearsals and services and will normally be expected to sing at each service. Although the annual pattern of Choir Terms is fairly consistent (taking into account where Easter may fall), Lay Vicars are informed of the actual dates well in advance. The Lay Vicar will also be expected to take part in Choir broadcasts, concerts, recordings, tours, and other events falling outside the regular timetable.
To apply, please read the application pack, complete our application form and send your application form, CV and a covering letter to Chief Operating Officer Catherine Escott at [email protected] by the closing date of 12 noon on Friday 3 July.
Exeter Cathedral is seeking a Deputy Choir Chaperone to cover for the Principal Choir Chaperone and Choir Administrator & Chaperone Co-ordinator as required and provide extra support for the Director of Music, Assistant Director of Music, and Choir Administrator & Chaperone Co-ordinator in caring for the choristers’ welfare requirements when singing and to ensure health and safety protocols, and adhere to good Safeguarding practices.
This role provides cover in the event of the absence of one of the two paid Cathedral choir chaperones, and offers the potential for extra support to those members of staff at peak periods eg. Christmas, Easter and Special Services. As such, the working pattern will be sporadic, with hours offered on a case-by-case basis. Where possible, good notice will always be given. You may be offered hours at short notice, eg. in case of absence due to illness.
To apply, please read the application pack, complete our application form and send your application form, CV and a covering letter to Chief Operating Officer Catherine Escott at [email protected] by the closing date of Thursday 2 July.
