Australian visitors to lead Cathedral worship
A visiting choir from Australia making their first tour of Europe will sing services in Exeter Cathedral later this week.
The musicians from St James’ Church in Sydney, which dates back to the 19th century, are led by their Head of Music Warren Trevelyan-Jones who was a member of Exeter Cathedral Choir in the 1980s. Mr Trevelyan-Jones has been a regular member of many of the leading early music ensembles both in Britain and in Europe and was a professional singer at Westminster Abbey before taking up his appointment in Sydney in 2008.
The choir, which has at its heart a nucleus of professional singers, began their European tour with residencies at Westminster Abbey and Winchester Cathedral and will lead the choral services here in Exeter for three days during our own choir’s Easter vacation.
Their trip will also take them to Paris, Vienna and Rome before returning to London for ANZAC day events as the guests of the Australian and New Zealand High Commissions.
