Award for Library and Archive
27th October 2014
Our Library and Archive staff have been awarded the prestigious Archive Services Accreditation, the first Cathedral in the country to earn the accolade.
Accredited Archive Services ensure the long-term collection, preservation and accessibility of our archive heritage. Accreditation is the new UK quality standard which recognises good performance in all areas of archive service delivery.
Achieving this accreditation status demonstrates that Exeter Cathedral’s Library and Archives has met clearly defined national standards relating to management and resourcing; the care of its unique collections and what the service offers to its entire range of users.
Dean of the Cathedral, the Very Revd Jonathan Draper, said the award was a tribute to the hard work that has gone into looking after the collection and opening it up to the public.
Exeter Cathedral Library and Archives has recently undergone a £1 million refurbishment to bring together all its treasures under one roof for the first time. Its greatest treasures include the 10th century Exeter Book containing Anglo Saxon poetry, one of only four such books in the world.
