Cathedral appointment for organ scholar Ed
Wednesday 7th June 2017
Exeter Cathedral’s Organ Scholar, Dr Ed Jones, has been appointed Assistant Organist of St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast.
In his new role, he will be principal organist for choral services at the Cathedral and will be responsible for the junior girls’ and probationer boys’ choirs, deputising for Master of the Choristers David Stevens as required and assisting with the administration of the Music Department.
Commenting on the news, Timothy Noon, Director of Music at Exeter Cathedral, said:
“We are delighted that Ed will be taking up this new post in Belfast when his scholarship here in Exeter concludes at the end of the year. He has already make a strong contribution to the musical life of the Cathedral and we wish him well in the next step of his musical career”
Ed Jones came to Exeter in Autumn 2016 after completing a PhD in composition at the Aberdeen University. As Organ Scholar he helps to train the junior ‘probationer’ Choristers and plays the organ for services in the Cathedral. He also works regularly with the University of Exeter’s Chapel Choir as an organist and director.
He takes up his new post in Belfast in January 2018.
