Congratulations to Cathedral bell ringers
A team of bell ringers from Exeter Cathedral was placed 4th in the final of the National 12 Bell Competition held at St Peter Mancroft Norwich on Saturday 27th June. This is the highest position the Exeter team has ever achieved. The winners were a team from London closely followed by Birmingham. Bristol just pushed Exeter down to 4th.
The team had been practising hard all year to ensure they were fully prepared. This included taking part in the qualifying heats in March (Exeter came 3rd at Shrewsbury) and since then making visits to Crediton, Withycombe Raleigh, South Petherton & Norwich to practise.
Matthew Hilling, Cathedral Ringing Master, said "This is a great result for the team following many hours of practice and is well deserved. We are all extremely pleased. We have produced better ringing than teams from (amongst others)St Paul's Cathedral, Cambridge, Leeds, Oxford & York."
The members of the Exeter team were: Ian Avery, Paul Pascoe, Sue Sawyer, Alison Waterson, Tim Payne, Jenny Sparling, Pauline Champion, Ian Smith, Tom Waterson, Mike Mears, David Hird and Matthew Hilling.
