Devon’s church schools celebrate at Cathedral

4th June 2014

500 children from Devon’s church schools will gather at the Cathedral on Thursday 5th June to take part in workshops and celebrate at a service together.

The Bishop of Crediton, Rt Revd Nick McKinnel, who chairs the Board of Education for the Diocese of Exeter, will also be there to meet children and teachers and speak at the service.

Bishop Nick said: “We are so proud of our church schools, which range from small rural primaries to large city secondaries, and it is great to get as many of them together as possible each year. Our schools are serving children and families, by raising educational expectations and aspirations, but they are also helping to build communities right across the county.”

There are 131 Church of England schools and academies in Devon and children from schools are invited to the Cathedral each year. The theme for this year’s service is Pentecost and the children will take part in hands on workshops on the theme.
