Hospice honour for Cathedral Canon

Hospice honour for Cathedral Canon

Canon Dr John Searle, a Residentiary Canon of the Cathedral, has been honoured by Exeter charity Hospiscare. To recognise the 'amazing contribution of the Searle family to the foundation and continuing success of Hospiscare' the charity has recently announced that its Exeter hospice will be called Searle House.

Canon Searle was the long-standing chairman of Hospiscare which he founded in 1982 and has served as the charity's president for over 15 years. He was installed as a Canon and member of the Chapter of Exeter Cathedral in September 2014.

The Very Revd Dr Jonathan Draper, Dean of Exeter, said: "We are delighted that Hospiscare have chosen to honour John and his family in this way. It is an honour he, and his wife Liz, richly deserve. The fact that John is still working with us here at Exeter Cathedral, even in retirement, exemplifies how he has dedicated his whole life to public service."
