May Blog: From the Archives

15th May 2015

We've just received another donation to our Library and Archives. Ellie (our Archivist) tells us more:

"Eleanor Chudley (of Exeter) compiled an album of postcards of the Cathedral in about 1910. It contains nearly 50 postcards showing different views of the cathedral at the turn of the 20th century, plus a few portraits of senior clergy (including Bishop Archibald Robertson, Revd Alfred Earle, Revd RE Trefusis, Canon Pryke etc.).

The album also has a bespoke cover embroidered with the arms of the Diocese. It is believed to be the work of Eleanor herself who is known to have been an embroiderer and who taught sewing classes at Exeter prison.

Also tucked inside is a lovely little article about Richard Hooker, inspired by the sighting of a cat sitting in the lap of his statue on Cathedral Green!"
