Once in a blue moon?
Once in a blue moon? With tonight's lunar phenomenon in mind it seems appropriate to share this 16th century Spanish manuscript (picture) from our Library. Edited by Martin de Haya, it includes descriptions of the phases of the moon.
A note in the Archives tells us that tonight would have been a night off for a certain Mr Strong who was, for quite some years in the 1770s, employed to light, trim, clean and repair lamps in the Close for £1 8s (about £90) “every night of the year except the three days round each full moon”.
