Planning a dramatic rescue!

Planning a dramatic rescue!

Monday 25th September 2017

Visitors to Cathedral Green this Wednesday might be forgiven for thinking they have stumble upon a dramatic rescue.
On the morning of Wednesday 27th September the Cathedral will play host to three fire crews, a specialist line rescue team, and the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) from South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust.
The exercise is a training simulation that will see paramedics stabilising a ‘casualty’ high inside the Cathedral’s south tower and moving them through the inside of the roof space, before lowering them down to Cathedral Green on the north side of the building.
A spokesman said:
“With a busy bellringing team, regular repairs and maintenance and a programme of behind the scenes tours over the summer, there are people inside the roof space most weeks.”
“We are glad to be working with the emergency services in this way as part of our emergency planning.”
The Cathedral will remain open to the public throughout the exercise, although parts of Cathedral Green will be roped-off to provide a safe working space for the emergency services.
