Success for Exeter bellringers in national competition

Tuesday 28th March 2017

The Exeter Cathedral bell ringers were awarded first place on Saturday in their qualifier for the 2017 National 12 Bell competition at Sheffield Cathedral.

The judges said that they rang with confidence, a strong consistent rhythm and produced some very good ringing. This is the first time that the Exeter Cathedral Society team has won a qualifier outright and now join the top three teams from each of the qualifiers who will ring with the hosts in the prestigious final at Southwark Cathedral on the 24th June 2017.

The other finalists have been confirmed as the Ancient Society of College Youths and the Society of Royal Cumberland Youths (both long historic ringing societies from London), Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, High Wycombe, Melbourne, and St Paul's Cathedral.

We wish the bell ringers every success for the final.

Exeter Cathedral will be hosting the final of the competition in June 2019 -  25 years since the final last took place on our glorious bells.
