The 2016 Mayoral Service

The 2016 Mayoral Service

Friday 20th May 2016

Aldermen, members and officers of Exeter City Council will attend a special service of Choral Evensong today at Exeter Cathedral.

The service will be the first civic engagement for the new Lord Mayor of Exeter, Councillor Cynthia Thompson, who began her year of office at the City Council’s Annual General Meeting earlier this week. Cllr Thompson will take her place in the Lord Mayor’s “stall” in the area of the Cathedral known as the Quire.

Music for the service will be led by the Cathedral Choir, conducted by Director of Music Timothy Noon. The canticles were written by Hugh Blair, organist of Worcester Cathedral at the end of the 19th century. The anthem is a setting by Philip Moore (former Organist of York Minster) of words from the book of Ecclesiasticus: “All wisdom cometh from the Lord, and is with him for ever.”

All are welcome at the service which begins at 17.30
