UPDATE: Monday 31st October 2016
This page was last updated 11.00, Monday 31st October 2016
Access to Cathedral Green has been severely restricted since a fire broke out in one of the historic buildings in Cathedral Yard early on Friday morning. Dean Jonathan, members of the Chapter and everyone at Exeter Cathedral continue to hold all those affected in our thoughts and prayers.
Up until now we have always hoped that we would be able to make the Cathedral available for the people of Exeter to enter for quiet prayer and reflection.
As the incident has continued to develop, and following conversations with the emergency services on the ground, it has become clear that, for the time being at least, this will no longer be possible. The Cathedral itself is still within the safety cordon that has been established around the scene of the blaze and as a result we have had to make the following changes:
- The Cathedral is closed until further notice with no public access available. If you are expecting to bring a group to visit the Cathedral please contact the visitors' office on 01392 285983.
- The Chapter House is being used for our regular services but is closed to the public outside of these times.
- The Cathedral Shop and Cathedral Café are closed until further notice.
We hope to make a statement about future access and events at around 10.00 tomorrow morning (1st November)
