The Cathedral is the mother-church for the Diocese of Exeter in the Church of England and offers a broad range of services. If you are unable to join us in person there are several opportunities to join us for worship online.
Weekdays at the Cathedral
Entry for said Morning Prayer (08.00 Monday to Saturday) and the said service of Holy Communion (08.20 Monday to Saturday) is via the north porch (on the side of the Cathedral behind the statue of Richard Hooker).
17.30 Choral Evensong (45 minutes. 16.00 on Saturdays)
The service of sung Evensong follows the traditional liturgy of the Book of Common prayer enriched by the wonderful choral tradition. The majority of the service is sung by the Cathedral Choir and includes prayers and an anthem.
Sundays at the Cathedral
10.00 Sung Eucharist (70 minutes with sermon)
Everyone is welcome at our main service of the week. The music is normally led by the Cathedral Choir (accompanied by our recently restored organ) and includes congregational hymns.
Children and young people are particularly welcome and are well catered-for at our crèche (under 4s) and 'Cloister Club' (ages 4-12+)
After the service we serve fresh coffee in the nave of the Cathedral, offering a chance to get to know each other better and to welcome newcomers.
16.00 Choral Evensong (50 minutes with sermon)
Choral evensong is held in the Quire of the Cathedral every Sunday at 4pm and all are warmly welcome. The service follows the traditional liturgy of the Book of Common prayer enriched by the wonderful choral tradition. The majority of the service is sung by the Cathedral Choir and includes prayers and an Anthem and there is a short sermon. Service cards are provided to enable all, regardless of church background, to participate.
19.00 Sundays @ 7
We launched ‘Sundays @ 7’ in September 2015. The service is held in the Chapter House at 19.00 and takes the form of a simple, reflective Eucharist with plenty of opportunity to get to know one another over coffee. The second Sunday of each month continues as Holy Ground.
19.00 Holy Ground (Second Sunday)
Holy Ground is Exeter Cathedral's alternative service which aims to create space for contemplation and creativity in worship. Holy Ground starts in the Cathedral with a 45min service of Holy Communion with readings and creative liturgy to enable reflection and prayer. There is then an opportunity to enjoy refreshments and engage with a guest speaker in a cafe style venue in the Chapter House until 21.00. Holy Ground is particularly popular with students and younger adults but all ages are welcome. We are often joined by the University of Exeter Chapel Choir who help lead our worship.
