Exeter Chamber Choir:
J.S. Bach’s St John Passion
Saturday 29 March at 7:30pm
Exeter Chamber Choir, Orchestra and Soloists present J.S. Bach’s dramatic setting of the Easter Passion according to St. John. From the urgent, restless opening through to the sublime final chorus and transcendent chorale, the musical evocation of this dramatic story brings us face to face with some of the most fundamental questions in life.
As may have happened in Bach’s day, the audience will be invited to join in the singing of the chorales, the hymn tunes that punctuate the work. English texts and music for these will be included in a free programme booklet, to enable this audience participation and a deeper involvement with the whole musical and dramatic experience, whilst the choir and soloists will sing the rest of the work in the original German.
