Last chance to see Christmas exhibition

As the Exeter Cathedral Christmas Market enters its final week of trading, it’s also the last chance to catch a special exhibition on display inside Exeter Cathedral.

Nestled in the side aisles, beyond the impressive organ case that dominates the medieval nave, is a collection of Christmas artwork inspired by the Cathedral and its Choristers. The project has been brought together by local GP Dr Lisa Gibbons and artist Jayne Farleigh, as Laurence Blyth, the Cathedral’s Marketing Manger, explains:

“Back in 2016 a small exhibition of original artwork was scheduled to be held at the Castle Fine Art gallery in Cathedral Yard. After the devastating fire in October that year, the artists rallied around to bring together a number of pieces for a pop-up exhibition in the Cathedral Chapter House just before Christmas.

“It was immediately apparent that there was an appetite to bring the exhibition back into the Cathedral in 2017, but on a grander scale. Lisa and Jayne, and their colleagues, have done a wonderful job in bringing such a wide range of work together, with thousands of people visiting since the exhibition opening at the end of November.”

The exhibition closes on Friday 15th December, and entry is included in the Cathedral’s admission charge.

Christmas cards of selected works, along with prints and originals of the art, are available to purchase, with proceeds benefitting the work of the Cathedral Choristers.
