There’s a variety of carved faces that sit high up within the Exeter Cathedral architecture. This particular face dates back to around the 14th Century.
The vertical joint on the side of the face suggests that it was carved in situ rather than elsewhere and transported to its current location.
You can also see small remnants of the red and gold polychrome (paint) originally used back in 14th Century as decoration throughout the Cathedral.
