Exeter Cathedral is delighted to announce the appointment of its new Organ Scholar, Adam Field.Currently in his final year at Selwyn College, Cambridge, where he is reading for a degree in Music, Adam is looking forward to playing his part in the musical life of the cathedral. Responding to the news, he said:
“I am delighted to be joining the team of musicians at Exeter in September, and am very much looking forward to spending a year immersing myself in the thriving music tradition at such a lovely cathedral.”
Adam currently holds the Percy Young Senior Organ Scholarship, accompanying Selwyn Choir in three weekly services and assisting in its running and direction. With the choir, he has been engaged in concerts and services across the country and internationally, including live performances on BBC Radio 3 and Radio 4. He has also played organ and piano for commercially recorded music, and is organist for King’s Voices – the mixed-voice choir of King’s College, Cambridge. Previously, Adam has been organ scholar at Croydon Minster and Portsmouth Cathedral, and has recently passed his examination for the Fellowship of the Royal College of Organists.
Exeter Cathedral’s Canon Precentor, the Revd Canon James Mustard, sees Adam’s role as an asset for the whole of the cathedral community. He concludes:
“All of us are looking forward very much to welcoming Adam to the cathedral next year, not only to the music department but also to the wider community. In the meantime, we wish him all the best for his remaining studies and exams.”
