Library & Archives In Focus: Bishops of Exeter

Thursday 21 November, drop in 11am-1pm

Join us as we celebrate the arrival of the Right Revd Mike Harrison as the 72nd Bishop of Exeter with a look back at some of those who came before him.

900 years ago, William Warelwast was bishop, and he would soon become the first of Exeter’s Building Bishops. 800 years ago it was Walter Stapeldon, the ill-fated Treasurer of England. 300 years ago it was Lancelot Blackburne, a supposed pirate. A hundred years ago it was William Cecil, popularly called the Bicycling Bishop. Looking back every 100 years from 1924 to 1124, find out about the varied personalities and changing roles of the Bishops of Exeter.

This event is included in standard Cathedral admission.
