The Group was tasked with looking at the different aspects of how Cathedrals work and ensuring that the legislation and the procedures they use are fit for purpose for their mission in the 21st century. There will now be a consultation period to garner responses to the group’s recommendations. The Chapter of Exeter looks forward to participating in the consultation process.
Much work has taken place in recent months to improve the Cathedral’s governance and finance, and we are very pleased to report the Cathedral’s finances are no longer in operating deficit, though the financial situation for Exeter – as for all Cathedrals – remains challenging, as the draft Report highlights.
It will be important for us to see how the Report’s recommendations allow us to continue to strengthen cathedral governance, and it will be in the light of these reflections that we shall respond to the consultation.
