We welcome all who wish to visit Exeter Cathedral to light a candle, reflect on yesterday’s tragic events in Plymouth and pray for the victims, their families and friends, and the community of Keyham.
The Cathedral is open from 9.30am-4.30pm Monday to Saturday, and from 11am-3pm on Sunday.
As always, entrance is free for prayer and private reflection (simply let the welcome team know the reason for your visit).
The Cathedral’s flag is currently flying at half mast, and we offer this prayer:
Remembering Plymouth in our Prayers
The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble.
He cares for those who trust in him.
(Nahum 1:7)
We pray for all those involved in and affected by Thursday’s tragic events
in Keyham, Plymouth.
O GOD our Father, our refuge and strength, a very present help in
trouble; support, we pray, all who are distressed and now suffer as a
result of violence and tragedy in Plymouth; and give them courage to
endure and faith to overcome. Holding before them your Son, who
suffered for the sake of love the pain of the Cross, may they know the
comfort of your love; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
And we pray for all those who have died.
RECEIVE, O Lord, in tranquillity and peace, the souls of your servants
who, out of this present life, have departed to be with you. Grant them
rest, and give them the life that knows not age, the good things that pass
not away; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
REST eternal grant to them, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon
them. May they rest in peace, and rise in glory. Amen.
