Cantores Early Music Chamber Choir: Beata es, Virgo Maria

Cantores Early Music Chamber Choir: Beata es, Virgo Maria

Sunday 6 April, 1pm

An informal recital of sacred music from the 16th century performed by Cantores Early Music Chamber Choir, and directed by David Allinson.

All the singers in Cantores are graduates of The University of Exeter from the 1990s, and this performance forms part of a reunion weekend celebrating 30 years since they gave their first concert. They will be directed by Dr David Allinson, who obtained his PhD in Music at Exeter and is a specialist early music scholar and performer.

The programme, entitled Beata es, Virgo Maria, will include works by Franco-Flemish and Iberian composers of the Renaissance, from communion motets and pieces for the Virgin Mary to Lamentations and penitential motets. Featured composers include Isaac, Padilla, Willaert and Phinot. The choir has a reputation for passionate and engaged music-making.

This event is included in general Cathedral admission.
