From the Vow Made: Wax Carving Workshop
Tuesday 1 April, drop in from 10:30am-4pm
Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 April drop in from 9:30am-4pm
From The Vow Made will be a new artwork suspended in Exeter Cathedral, featuring 1,000 miniature wax sculptures made by 1,000 people. We need your help to create this exciting new sculptural installation!
Join our fun wax-carving workshop during the Easter holidays to create your own wax sculpture, inspired by Exeter Cathedral’s unique medieval votive collection. Led by international award-winning artists, Neil Musson and Jono Retallick, you will be able to carve your own unique creation on the theme of ‘giving thanks’ that represents something you are grateful for. Your work will then become part of the From The Vow Made artwork which will be displayed in Exeter Cathedral’s magnificent nave later this year. The artwork will be made from wax collected from Devon bee keepers.
Anyone, of any age, is welcome to join in and you can spend anything from five minutes to several hours working on your carving. The making events are free and will be led by Neil and Jono. No previous artistic skill is required and all contributions will be included in the final artwork.
The Votives Project is kindly supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
This event is included in standard Cathedral admission. Please note that if the weather is nice, this event may take place on Cathedral Green.
