Fun With Fabrics Workshops at Exeter Library
Saturday 12 and Saturday 26 October, 1:30pm-4pm
Get creative with Exeter Cathedral’s Textile Artist in our Fun with Fabrics workshops taking place at Exeter Library.
Learn new skills, experiment with heat transfer printing and cyanotype and add your unique contribution to a textile commission for the new Treasures Gallery at Exeter Cathedral.
The textile commission will incorporate a sense of time, history, mending and making anew. It will also look at how the stories and images of the present and future, generated from workshop participants can be interwoven with past stories already told within the Exeter Cathedral Library & Archive.
You are invited to bring stories, and objects that will contribute to a triptych that spans – birth (new beginnings/growth) marriage (union/love) and death (grief/loss).
Session 1 (12 October): We will use heat transfer print processes on fabric to explore these themes.
Session 2 (26 October): We will use cyanotype on fabric and add stitch to our work from week 1.
You will have some work to take away as well as leaving a small piece with the artist that will be added into the final commission.
The workshops will be led by multi-media artist Davina Kirkpatrick, whose artwork centres around the use of ritual and story, refuge and sanctuary.
These workshops are part of our Textile Project which is kindly supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
